Updates: Small Fry Versus Big Potatoes!

Having been unable to update the PlugShare Blog for some time, I reached out directly to PlugShare's Team, to see if I could get directly from them, a Summary of the data for the time since my last posting! It turns out - I am not Big Potatoes, but rather just a small fry! They would be happy to generate Custom Data, for larger organizations, for a Fee, of Course!

So in the mean time - they provided a few links for PlugShare Data Products, and from their first one, I find a few interesting examples of data they have provided, but not sure to who, if I wanted to follow up!

This is a nice Listing in line-Graph Progression form: DCFC Growth by Outlet Type.

Another sample image shows Free Vs. Paid (Again - to Q2, 2017).

Then, a nice PIE Chart, with a listing of Charging Locations by POI Type (Point of Interest?).

Ultimately, this gives at least some sense of the growth areas of the Infrastructure of EVSE's or EV Charging Stations, as tallied by PlugShare!

They also provided a Link to the "Alternative Fuels Data Center - Electric Vehicle Charging Station Locations", but this link just covers USA Listings and Data!

New Charging Station recent listings in Greater Toronto at - these locations

For those interested in Plug-in Electric Cars, Plug-in Hybrids, and Battery Electric Cars (& Trucks) here are some of the recent additions to the opportunity to charge up such vehicles in the Greater Toronto Area and nearby!

Centennial College – Ashtonbee Campus, where the Electric Vehicle Society of Canada Meets, now has two Sun Country Highway EV Charging Stations, and I added a listing for them on PlugShare here - http://api.plugshare.com/view/location/57943 posted Nov. 21st, 2014!

On November 19^th, 2014, Clarification happened at BMW Canada as I advised them of the tools on PlugShare’s website to manage their listing, and I also added a piece of Information as a comment from our Emails, and it is indeed intended to be a Public Accessed Site – at 50 Ultimate Drive, Richmond Hill ( Hwy 404 & Major Mackenzie) - http://api.plugshare.com/view/location/53006

PowerStream Headquarters changed on November 12^th, 2014, from Restricted to Public, with Level 2 Charging X2, PLUS an addition of another DC Fast Charger – this one with service for BOTH CHAdeMO type Cars (Nissan LEAF, Mitsubishi iMiEV, and the new KIA Soul EV); and SAE CCS type cars (BMW i3, and – Potentially – Spark EV)! http://api.plugshare.com/view/location/46915

Ford Buffalo added an Employee Only Listing as Restricted, on November 11^th, 2014, as well!

Cluster of charging stations coming to downtown hotel

Seeking to attract affluent visitors, the Napa River Inn on Main Street is installing three electric vehicle charging stations in the middle of its downtown parking lot, said Sara Brooks, hotel general manager.

Quick-Charging Two In One: Tesla To Offer $1,000 CHAdeMO Adaptor For Electric Cars

Tesla will offer a CHAdeMO adaptor for the Model S for sale online this winter.

The company had previously discussed offering this option in Japan, but it will be offered initially in North America. Adaptors for European and Asian markets will follow.

2014 Chevrolet Spark EV Sales Exceeding Expectations

Regional Director of Chevrolet for General Motors Western Region, Dale Sullivan, has told Plug In Cars that the 2014 Chevrolet Spark EV, available only in California and Oregon, is selling at at rate “way over our expectation,” he said. “Keeping a good quantity in stock is the biggest problem we have.”

Tesla Supercharger network lets you drive from Mexico to Canada for free

One of the downsides of electric car ownership is the pitiful range, but that's not such an issue if you happen to own a Tesla Model S. The electric car manufacturer has officially opened a network of charging points that allow owners to drive all the way from Mexico to Canada -- for free.

October 28th to 29th, 2013 24 hour Update

From approximately 2 AM on October 28th until 2 AM on October 29th, 2013, the activity stream from the PlugShare app shared the following:

16 new public Chargers were listed,
9 Personal Chargers were shared,
57 new Photos were added, and
182 people checked in at a charger on the PlugShare Network:
- 159 of them had an OK or a Great Experience, and
- 23 - not so good.

Some interesting other things happened too:

'Suzi' Shared a Home Station (~Saturday), West Hartford, CT (8 Blocks from West Hartford Center) that was a duplicated entry.
A new photo of 'Delete this entry' was added (~Saturday) {Just after a New Check in at Centralia Wendy's - Location Squamish Public Library, Squamish, B.C.
'Ryan' shared a home station (~Sunday) [Duplicated] right after Hanny checked in at Kohl's, Santee (A Red or thumbs down, experience)

Issues that continue to cause challenges are:

Electric Vehicle Charging Spots continue to be 'ICE'd',
Chargers are available on limited hours, or behind gates that are closed,
Dealers being brand sensitive (Sorry - you can't charge THAT car here!), and even some that unplug a car that is charging on their lot (during the day)!

Basic PlugShare Charger Tally update June 18th to June 24th, 2013

This post will cover the PlugShare Charger additions activity for the week of June 11th to June 17th, 2013 - as provided by PlugShare in their Android App, and is mostly taken from daily screen captures at about or near 5 PM when possible. June 17 = 18,374 total stations.

This post will cover the PlugShare Charger additions activity for the week of June 4th to June 10th, 2013 - as provided by PlugShare in their Android App, and is mostly taken from daily screen captures at about 5 PM.

This brings us to 154 chargers added to the PlugShare system this week. This is an average of 22 per day! (An Average of over 100 Chargers in 5 Days).

*You will note - the Animation Frame for June 07, 2013 - states 18,188 (Less 6 Chargers) - because the frame capture was at 9:35 PM - so I simply viewed the activity back to about 5 PM - and noted there had been 6 chargers added since that time - hence the note - Less 6 chargers = 18,182 total stations - as listed in the daily listing above the animation.

While the time frame from April 30th to June 10th, 2013 is only about 5 weeks, in that period of time there have been a net 1,026 Electric Vehicle Charge Points added to the PlugShare Network of Listings, or about 200 per week average for that 5 week stretch!

(It would be interesting to compare that number - with the number of New Electric Vehicles Sold and Delivered over that same time period!)

It wouldn't hurt to post another reminder - When Adding New Stations for a location - please verify if it is in fact a new charger listing! Please don't add a Duplicate because of a simple oversight - to look on the map for that area and check to see if there is already a listing given.

Basic PlugShare Charger Tally update May 28th to June 3rd, 2013

This post will cover the PlugShare Charger additions activity for the week of May 28th to June 3rd, 2013 - as provided by PlugShare in their Android App, and is taken from daily screen captures at about 5 PM.

An interesting thing happened this week - the PlugShare system logged in it's 18,000th Charger shared on its website & apps on May 30th, at 11:20 AM:

June 2nd = 18,091 total stations, (35 New Stations since the day before)
June 3rd = 18,088 total stations. (3 Less Stations than the day before*)

This brings us to 146 chargers added to the PlugShare system this week. This is an average of over 20 per day!

*You will notice there was a step back in the total on June 3rd: This is the Team at Xatori/Recargo - Cleaning up the Duplicated Charger Listings and adjusting the database to reflect the removed extra duplicates.

Please check if there is a PlugShare Listing at that spot - before adding a new one!
One Location I found seemed that there were OVER a DOZEN LISTINGS for ONE SINGLE CHARGER!!!

When gathering data for this Blog - I have often seen a new charger listed - which sounded familiar to one I had listed previously - and with a little review of the PlugShare Map - I found that the new listing was less than 100 feet from the previous listing. Often with pictures added - from a slightly different Angle - of the SAME EV CHARGER!!
Please check if there is a PlugShare Listing at that spot - before adding a new one!

Basic PlugShare Charger Tally update May 21st to May 27th, 2013

Continuing with the simple theme of presenting the PlugShare Charger growth with a screenshot animation from my Galaxy Note Android Phone - of the PlugShare App report of how many stations they are listing - here is my update for May 21st to may 27th. The Friday is Missing (May 24th) in the loop, but you can still see the growth for the week.

Rather than make one post with 4 weeks listed here - I will make one post per week - with an animation for the week, and a count update. This will be quicker - and get the posts out for viewers to check out sooner!

Short Summary Update to May 20th, 2013 for the Month Since Last Posting Tally

Having a difficulty after multiple attempts to get back in the activity stream with with my Android Phone or my Android Tablet to the April 21st Last Posting - I have decided to take and post what screen Captures I have going forward - and Tally them in Animations as shown below.

I know I won't be listing the actual new stations in this post, or the check-in activity or new pictures added, but I am sure they are in proportion to the growth in charger listings!

This First Animation is from April 30th, to May 6th, 2013 - showing the Tally of Charging Stations as reported on the Android PlugShare App:

Daily Posting Delay - heavy Electric Vehicle Event activities - Screen Captures should Help!

My apologies for the long delay in updates on this blog since April 21st!

There have been Elements of activity in completing the Electric Avenue 2013 Event, along with Work, and Electric Vehicle Events and scheduling, that have been consuming my extra time.

I have been trying to at least log reference points by editing the Daily minute by minute Activity notes via my Galaxy Note Phone - and taking screen Shots of them to save the file dates and Activity points for the daily reference.

Here is one of my earlier Examples - when I was practicing the screen capture of the 'About' Screen (Added into my March 10th Tally Posting) :
