Since Quebec, Canada, is working on expanding their own Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure in the public domain, I suspect these EVSE's (EV Chargers) are actually going - Mostly Public, but some 'boo-boo' slip and they all were copied - and made all Restricted.

On That Note - check out:

A Special Note To the new Electric Vehicle Dealers, Selling Chevy Volts, Nissan LEAF's, Mitsubishi iMiEV's, Mercedes Smart ED's, and Toyota Prius PHV's, and any other EV Dealers:

One Continuing Issue is the concept that a number of the Auto Dealers have - that their EVSE (EVCharger) Should be Only for Their Own Brand of Vehicle (NISSAN LEAF's only charging at a Nissan Dealerships, Chevy Volts Only charging at Chevy Dealerships, etc.)

What such dealers do not seem to understand - is their own balance sheets can be greatly affected by this - because besides being over protective, it is not very courteous, offers no Goodwill Investment in the community, and creates opportunity for bad blood. Particularly - when a Dealer let's you start to charge your nearly empty Electric Vehicle - then comes and unplugs you a few minutes later because your are not driving 'Their Brand' - which has happened now! (See the Activity stream on the PlugShare apps for today!)

Also - at the cost of charging up a iMiEV, or Nissan LEAF - being about 40 Cents worth of Electricity per hour - it takes a couple hours for them to consume 1 cup of coffee's worth of Electricity - at worst!

That Same two hours of charging might be all they need to get home in a bit of a timely manner, and they will definitely thank you for letting them charge - and say good things about you doing so (even if you don't hear them directly)!

On the other hand - you can imagine the comments they will share when you treat them  like beggars and bums, just because when coming into your dealership with a different branded EV for a charge - you think it won't 'Look Good' for an other brand to be plugged in at your shop or showroom location's EV Charger!

If you refuse to work in the EV Community as a member of the EV Community, and support other members of the EV Community - it would be best to simply not be a part of it.

An Even Worse style of thinking I have come across - is not just 'My Brand Only' - but - 'My Stores Customers Only!' that means - if you bought the same brand elsewhere - you STILL won't be allowed to charge up your Plug-in Vehicle at their store - since you did not buy it there! Rest Assured - that is an extreme case of cutting your nose off to spite your face, no matter how much money you think you are saving - it will greatly affect your bottom line far beyond what you may ever learn - only because you put that kind of thinking out there!

The EV Community - and EV Drivers are not 'Cheap' - considering the much more expensive Vehicles they have bought - compared to a similar sized Gasoline Vehicle, so why treat them like they are Cheap Beggars? Instead - treat them as leads to your next customer - or clients for your brand - when you treat them with kindness, support them, and work to help them - they will do what you least expect - Remember you as a positive influence in their life - and talk about it in the same fashion! They might even refer a friend to your branded store to check out your products, EV's or other!

I might be wrong in this - but I think of it like the days of a Store Owner - who can't help you - referring you to his competition to get what you need, because - he truly wants to help you - not just make a sale!

What do you think? Add your comments below and tell me your thoughts about this! EV Drivers, and EV Dealers (Plug-in Hybrids [And EREV's] too!).

Since I began this blog on February 27, 2013, keeping a daily track of added charging station activity - there have been 126 new Electric Vehicle Charging Station Locations Added to the PlugShare Network Listings! That is in 1 week and 1 day! Almost 16 new Charger Listings average per day!

In addition, there were 32 Personal Home Charging Stations Shared in this week, for an average of 4 new Home chargers per day available and being shared on the PlugShare Network for the last 8 days!

Station #2 in the list above is essentialy at Hollyhock, which recently did an LED Light Fund Raiser: SVI Attendees Raise $10K for Hollyhock’s LED Light Project.

A Funny thing today - this time - more Public EV Charging stations were installed, and fewer people plugged in to them than most recent days! Maybe here is why:

I hope this blog and these stories are getting your the information you want and need, or are just curios about but they deliver the answers! Robert

Now - for some of my readers - Maybe I am preaching to the Choir, but anyway - Some additional information and references on Using of Electric Vehicle Charging stations:

2012 Florida Statutes- 366.94 Electric vehicle charging stations.
(3)(a) It is unlawful for a person to stop, stand, or park a vehicle that is not capable of using an electrical recharging station within any parking space specifically designated for charging an electric vehicle.
(b) If a law enforcement officer finds a motor vehicle in violation of this subsection, the officer or specialist shall charge the operator or other person in charge of the vehicle in violation with a noncriminal traffic infraction, punishable as provided in s. 316.008(4) or s. 318.18.

Another Suggestion for areas where such or similar laws exist - Post the Phone Number of the Local Police Establishment on the listing in PlugShare, and make up a Sticker / Sign of the same parking control content and Post it at your local Public EV charging Point!

Living in Vancouver, B.C.? - Have a Business there? Want to offer EV Charging? Check this out - "Electric Vehicle Charging Station Incentive Program - Get Your Customers Charged Up with up to $4000 off an EV charging station.

Metro Vancouver is pre-qualifying up to 75 eligible businesses and non-profit organizations to host an electric vehicle charging station as part of the Provincial Community Charging Infrastructure Fund (CCI)."

Having a Charger like this with a Pedestal Base - allows for a Sign to be incorporated behind it, as well as painted on the pedestal, and (if the Parking Spot is painted) the parking spot can also be a place to identify the Illegality of Parking if not for Charging!

Along the lines of the above incentive information - here are some of B.C.'s Current Goals in this direction, as Business Vancouver shares "Province announces second phase of electric vehicle charging stations", which states "A total of 570 charging stations are expected to be installed under the program by March 31, 2013."

Victoria B.C. Times Colonist shares "10 electric-car charging stations planned"  (For Victoria)

Electric vehicle rebate program under-subscribed - "
The City of Vancouver has adopted a number of EV adoption policies, including a requirement that all new condo developments include EV charging stations."

Bloomberg News shares "Brazil May Require Electric-Vehicle Charging Stations Next Year"

In any case - you can see there is definite Infrastructure Growth - both currently - and planned!

Even on a quiet Saturday to Sunday run, there were still 15 Chargers added to the PlugShare Network. Of those only 1 was a restricted station - at The Naval Base of San Diego, CA - Navy Exchange (Groceries Store for the Base). While it is true that also 3 of them were private or personal stations - they were still made available and sited and listed for all to ask to use!

As I Read the comments - the number of EV Charging Spots ICE'd (blocked by Internal Combustion Engine Vehicles) seems a bit down, but also - the number of EV Owners Taking (Impatiently) the Charging Cord from one EV while it is charging, and putting it into their vehicle seems like just Rude, if not Arrogant (I am more important than you - so I am going to charge my vehicle, forget you!) For the ICE Drivers - consider this note for them.

It would seem like the rules I grew up with -  - never leave home without telling someone where you are going and for how long, or leave a note with the info if you can't tell someone directly - or similar to them - much like the farmers rules, would be a good fit here: If the gate is open when you come to it - leave it open, if it is closed, close it behind you!

In EV Terms - it might go like this - if you really need the plug the other guy is using, and you can't be patient and figure out where the owner is - at least leave your info tucked under the wiper (Business Card, a Note with Name and Ph. #), and an explanation as to why you unplugged him, that you - yourself, might accept, if it happened to you! Maybe - tuck a $5 in the window.

For my Local Followers:

Now with the continuing growth - I have just one question - how long will it take us (Canada and the USA) to be able to be equal to Estonia?

See: Estonia Launches World's First Nationwide EV Fast-Charging Network - for a better understanding of that question!

Maybe - if Nissan can deliver - it won't be long:

I Hope your are enjoying the regular updates on this blog and the subject matter I sometimes add!
